Phase 3 (Physical assessments) include the followings:

Sit Ups

• This is a test of core muscle strength. Each applicant must complete as many sit-ups as
possible in 1-minute.

Push ups

• This tests upper body strength. Each applicant must complete as many push-ups as possible in 1-minute, but may also be required to perform this particular strength test during other activities.

PATIENT LIFT AND CARRY

• This is a critical area and tests overall body strength. A rescue manikin is placed on the floor. The applicant will have to lift the mannequin onto his or
her shoulders (fireman’s lift) without any assistance and carry the manikin a distance of 100 meters. This test may be replaced with an equivalent test.

SHUTTLE RUNS

• Road cones are placed a distance of 25 meters apart. The applicants are given three
minutes to run to and from, attempting to do as many completed runs as possible. These may also be performed on an incline.

5 kilometres run

• The applicants will complete a five-km run and will be scored according to their performance(time frame is within 35 minutes)

Abseiling

• Applicants will abseil with a high angle rescue ropes from a certain hight ,which is from top to bottom, assisted by the college lectures, this is to determine if the applicants has phobia of heights

Claustrophobia

• Applicants will have to crawl for some distance in a very confined and dark area , this is to determine if the applicants has phobia of confine and dark area

Fire Man Carry

• Applicants will have to carry someone for a distance of 100 meters without dropping him/her down. This is to determine applicant’s body strength and lifting techniques.

Diploma continuous assessments (throughout the 2 year course)

5 kilometres run

• The applicants will complete a five-km run and will be scored according to their performance(record time is within 35 minutes)

Flex hang

• The applicants will hang on a bar for a period of 30 second or more, this is to determine the applicants upper body strength

Swimming

• This is to determine the upper and lower body strength including the cardio.

Assessment criteria as follows:

Applicants will have to swim the following distance within 20 minutes

• 200 meters within 20 minutes 50%
• 300 meters within 20 minutes 75%
• 350 meters within 20 minutes 100%
